The working class in India would soon become ‘temporary people’ with no rights and privileges. The NDA dispensation is legalising the casualization of labour in full conformity with the ‘Washington Consensus’ conditionality. The Modi regime is sliding itself into its inevitable fall, with the employment scenario of the country being sold out to neoliberal cannibals. This is a continuation of the process initiated by the Congress governments way back in the 1990s. There comes the political economy of ‘consensus’. Deunionisation has been the most important target of these ‘reforms’ in the labour sector and it will slowly, but steadily, spread to the employment scenario of public institutions, like government-run institutions, health, education, banking, telecom, insurance and other services sectors. So Nadrendra Modi’s “Make (unemployment) in India” programme is a perfect fit for “National ‘unguaranteed’ employment scheme.” The State is truly ‘withering away’ – day in and day out.
