The military takeover in Myanmar—which was being depicted in the Chinese media as “a major cabinet reshuffle” and “an adjustment to the country’s dysfunctional power structure”—has apparently become an ill wind that blows nobody good.

Myanmar’s misfortune is surely China’s good luck.

Though Beijing diplomatically warms the West against their ‘retaliation’ by way of sanctions or similar other measures, it knows well that it would be a windfall for the Chinese economy.

Myanmar is already China’s largest trading partner, and its trade volume with Myanmar accounts for more than 33 per cent of Myanmar’s total trade volume. Perhaps this could be doubled with a Western ‘sanction’ !
