Comment on M Kunhaman: A Subaltern Intellectual and His Politics of Defiance by S Kurian https://kmseethi.com/m-kunhaman-a-subaltern-intellectual-and-his-politics-of-defiance/#comment-159 Mon, 11 Dec 2023 03:38:42 +0000 https://kmseethi.com/?p=66216#comment-159 Professor Kunhaman would have won national and international acclaim had he been after positions. He never used his cultural capital for any personal gains. Kunhaman was equally critical of Dalits getting into petty squabbles, without indulging in any serious thoughts. Good that this has come at a time when all media are only interested in highlighting his own experiences of deprivations, and stories of caste discrimination. Much of his serious writings and perspectives need to be brought to light for the new generation to ponder over. His insights into contemporary tribal studies, for example, need wider consideration.

Comment on Michael Brecher, India and International Relations (IR) by Ambassador K P Fabian https://kmseethi.com/michael-brecher-india-and-international-relations-ir/#comment-132 Sun, 30 Jan 2022 06:43:46 +0000 https://kmseethi.com/?p=65966#comment-132 This is an exceedingly well-written essay on an exceptionally original IR scholar from the West who effortlessly transcended the deep-rooted prejudices prevalent among many scholars in the West and their uncritical acolytes in the Rest of the World.
Professor Ssethi has persuaded his readers to read or even read again Brecher. We do miss the holistic approach that Brecher practiced.
There have been distressing talks about an Indian IR.
Patriotism and scholarship do not go together.
Thank you, Professor Seethi.

Comment on Redlines In Kabul: Post-9/11 Promises And Predicament – OpEd by S Sen https://kmseethi.com/redlines-in-kabul-post-9-11-promises-and-predicament-oped/#comment-131 Sun, 12 Sep 2021 05:42:50 +0000 https://kmseethi.com/?p=65859#comment-131 Religious fundamentalism and intolerance gained currency in the post-9/11 period across the world. Asia, being the seat of all major religions, witnessed the worst scenario with the collapse of the socialist regimes. Much of what we see today as rising tide of religious conflicts and wars stemmed from the erstwhile imperialist-socialist geopolitical rivalry. The U.S. and other western nations used such forces in the days of the cold war very liberally against the communist regimes. Islam in that sense was a convenient tool for them to carry on the project of containment. The backlash of supporting such forces came very soon with the collapse of the socialist regimes. Now they justify it saying they were not quite ‘aware ’ of their ‘unintended consequences.’ ! Obama is not alone in this task of justifying the decades-long support to Mujahideen fighters. Dr. Seethi had written about it earlier in an analysis on Afghanistan. Pakistan capitalized this by fishing in the troubled waters of Afghanistan. The world has not forgotten what Gen Zia said and did in the days of Afghan war. Thanks for a persuasive article using some authentic sources. It must come as an eye opener for all in the days of ‘Talibanism.’ What everyone worries is its ‘export potential’ in South Asia. India is naturally worried about its backlash.

( By the way, I have been curious about etimology of usage of the Hindi word ‘sherni’ as equivalent for female tiger ,while ‘sher’ is used for (male) lion ! ‘Baghini’ too is there for female of bagh ( tiger), I suppose.
